Story
Arbroath Football Club was founded in 1878 and is a central pillar of the Arbroath community. Due to the increasing amount of community work underway at the Club a charity has been established which was launched on 13th November 2020. Arbroath FC Community Trust provides strategic direction for the community work under the themes of Education, Health & Wellbeing, Community, Inclusion and Sport. As part of the recent NOMIS information Angus currently has 14,200 people classed as economically inactive (20.5% of working age pop.) 3,700 are classed as carers, 5,000 people are long term sick and 2,700 retired. From this statistical break down you begin to get a picture of the area as a whole and potential users of the trust.
Through ongoing engagement work in the area for the overall development of the community Trust it has been highlighted that there is not only a need for more local activity but a need for inclusive work. This funding will enhance community empowerment as more people will be able to access the variety of services.
As stated In the Scottish Government Community Empowerment act “Scotland's communities are a rich source of energy, creativity and talent. They are made up of people with rich and diverse backgrounds who each have something to contribute to making Scotland flourish. Central and local government need to help communities work together and release that potential to create a more prosperous and fairer Scotland” through this work the Trust will be supporting and empowering local people across the area.
In the few months we have been in operation we have participated in National programmes to show that even as a newly created organisation we can deliver projects in an efficient manner to a high standard.
