Weʼre raising £3,000 to establish ARFID AWARENESS UK - the UK's first charity dedicated to Avoidant and Restrictive Food Intake Disorder.

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Story

As parents of children who have been diagnosed with "Avoidant and Restrictive Food Intake Disorder," we have been frustrated by the lack of access to information, awareness and understanding of ARFID both within the wider medical community and the public. As such, we have decided to take the positive step of creating a “bricks and mortar” not-for-profit that can work on behalf of both parents and medical professionals to provide both groups with up-to-date relevant information, research and support.

Whilst we hope to one day help with the funding of research, the immediate need and therefore our key objectives will be to raise awareness and educate.

The goals of ARFID Awareness UK will therefore be to:

1. Raise awareness about ARFID within the medical profession and wider population.

2. Educate individuals living with ARFID and their carers about the condition.

3. Improve support services and access to information, so that individuals know what help is available, as well as when and where to use it.

4. Provide support to those living with ARFID and their families.

5. Empower parents and carers to advocate for the children in their care.

With regards to our structure, we are working to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, and we are liaising with a lawyer who will be registering our charity with the Charity Commission upon appointment of our trustees.

Money raised will be used to pay for these fees as well as other costs involved in getting the charity 'up and running'. Anything left over after that will go towards any initial outlay needed for our first official fundraiser.

We have 'lift off'! Stacey and I proud to be representing ARFID Awareness UK at the International Conference on Children's Eating Behaviour which took place at the University of Birmingham. We were overwhelmed by the positive feedback and number of people keen to get involved. Needless to say, we have managed to secure our dream Trustee Board, and once we've signed them, we'll formally announce our line up. A massive thank you to John at DG3 for donating his printing services for these posters and 50 flyers!

2 days until the International Conference on Children's Eating Behaviour! Stacey's been beavering away at our Governance document, Kris has been pulling together a poster to be put up at the conference and I've been liaising with our 'celebrity trustee line-up'. And donations keep coming in with our current total being £2465! Love to you all. Nicole
