Story

As parents of children who have been diagnosed with "Avoidant and Restrictive Food Intake Disorder," we have been frustrated by the lack of access to information, awareness and understanding of ARFID both within the wider medical community and the public. As such, we have decided to take the positive step of creating a “bricks and mortar” not-for-profit that can work on behalf of both parents and medical professionals to provide both groups with up-to-date relevant information, research and support.

Whilst we hope to one day help with the funding of research, the immediate need and therefore our key objectives will be to raise awareness and educate.

The goals of ARFID Awareness UK will therefore be to:

1. Raise awareness about ARFID within the medical profession and wider population.

2. Educate individuals living with ARFID and their carers about the condition.

3. Improve support services and access to information, so that individuals know what help is available, as well as when and where to use it.

4. Provide support to those living with ARFID and their families.

5. Empower parents and carers to advocate for the children in their care.

With regards to our structure, we are working to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, and we are liaising with a lawyer who will be registering our charity with the Charity Commission upon appointment of our trustees.

Money raised will be used to pay for these fees as well as other costs involved in getting the charity 'up and running'. Anything left over after that will go towards any initial outlay needed for our first official fundraiser.
