Story
As parents of children who have been diagnosed with "Avoidant and Restrictive Food Intake Disorder," we have been frustrated by the lack of access to information, awareness and understanding of ARFID both within the wider medical community and the public. As such, we have decided to take the positive step of creating a “bricks and mortar” not-for-profit that can work on behalf of both parents and medical professionals to provide both groups with up-to-date relevant information, research and support.
Whilst we hope to one day help with the funding of research, the immediate need and therefore our key objectives will be to raise awareness and educate.
The goals of ARFID Awareness UK will therefore be to:
1. Raise awareness about ARFID within the medical profession and wider population.
2. Educate individuals living with ARFID and their carers about the condition.
3. Improve support services and access to information, so that individuals know what help is available, as well as when and where to use it.
4. Provide support to those living with ARFID and their families.
5. Empower parents and carers to advocate for the children in their care.
With regards to our structure, we are working to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, and we are liaising with a lawyer who will be registering our charity with the Charity Commission upon appointment of our trustees.
Money raised will be used to pay for these fees as well as other costs involved in getting the charity 'up and running'. Anything left over after that will go towards any initial outlay needed for our first official fundraiser.

4 years agoWe cannot thank you enough for believing in us and supporting us in our journey from the very start. Our JustGiving site will closed down in favour of a built-in donations function. We will also be launching a branded shop in the next couple of weeks with our partner Lovetree Designs for awareness and revenue generation. If you'd like to continue to hear from us, please subscribe to our mailing list on our website. All our love, Nicole & Stacey xx

4 years agoJune 13th was our Trustee Kick-off meeting and we left feeling overwhelmed but also excited and inspired to start a very successful year! We couldn't be happier with our amazing line-up of trustees and are hoping to have our website up and running by July. Thank you again for your support and please continue to share our page as it's enlightening how much everything costs! We're now looking to buy some printed ARFID merchandise to sell on our website to act as a mini ongoing fundraiser since demand has been high on our facebook groups.
