Story
Argo is a 17.3hh 6yr old Belgium Warmblood. My daughter saved so hard to buy Argo - her dream horse, with the hope to progress into dressage. About 6mths after buying Argo he had to have surgery for bone chips in his hocks..which he recovered from successfully. We noticed lameness in front when he started coming back into work and after lengthy investigations it was found that Argo has Navicular Oedema & tears to the deep digital flexor tendons in both front feet. We have followed advice from our vet Steven who has been amazing and supportive throughout. Argo had treatment and has been given 6mths to see if it would help - this was about 4 months ago. Sadly the treatment and bar shoes or shoes with pads has not helped Argo. A few weeks ago we got to the stage where we made the decision it would be kindest to put this beautiful young horse to sleep. At the 11th hour we did some research into navicular and have found that barefoot trimming can be amazing for horses with navicular. So we furthered our research and have spoken to Steve Leigh Barefoot farrier - a leader in his field and also taken advice from Rockley Farm rehab centre. We have decided to give Argo this chance, he is only 6yrs old and has his whole life ahead of him, we cant just give up without trying everything for him. To do this properly we need to create a 'track system' for Argo in our fields to recreate a more natural environment to help with the healing progress. This consists of a continuous track around the field with various surfaces to help build strength to his hooves and encourage him to use himself properly. ( i will attach links) Sadly we have exhausted all of our funds getting Argo this far and now need to get approx 150 fence posts - electric tape and various surfaces for the track - rocks/stone etc. We hate to ask for help, but Argo is such a beautiful young talented horse with so much life ahead of him and this is really his only chance and we all feel it is worth a try. If you feel you could donate anything - large or small we would be so grateful. Or even donations of materials would be amazing!
