Story

Following the great success of their 40 mile row to Mumbles last year, the Barry Yacht Club Sea Rowing Section are this year taking on a major fund raising challenge attempting a double row, weather permitting, to Mumbles and back on the same day

With the growth of sea and coastal rowing, the Sea Rowing Section of the club has not been able to keep up the local demand for membership.

The club has two Celtic Sea Rowing boats but desperately need to purchase a further boat, this would allow us to open our membership for more members and in particular it would allow us to expand our junior section.

We also plan to support “ LLAMAU” the charity that provides guidance for young people between the ages of 16 to 25 giving them the skills and confidence they will need to become an independent young adult.

As part of our support several young people will join our Sea Rowing Section where they will be part of a rowing team, working as a group.

The club’s two Celtic Long boats will be leaving Barry at High Tide 07.30 on April 6th to take the Ebb tide down Channel.

follow the coast past St Donats and Porthcawl to Mumbles. The row is expected to take 6 hours arriving at Low tide. One crew after a brief stop will begin the return row back to Barry, whilst the other boat will change crews for the return to Barry.

If you should spot them along the coast, please give them a loud cheer & if they can hear you they will respond.

If you would like to support this exciting and challenging Row please donate to this page

We are hoping to raise £1,000 to purchase a Sea Rowing Boat. Which would be used to engage with young persons and adults across the community.
