Story
As students, we will be going to Livingstone, Zambia for the summer of 2019. We will be working on four community & charity projects. One project is working in an orphanage; one is working in an old people’s home. Another will be completing a building project in support of Mukuni School, along with helping students with their education. The last project is an environmental project where we will be working with lions & elephants.
At the orphanage, we will be doing art projects, drama & sports workshops, as well as supporting life skills. In the old peoples home we will be painting accommodation & providing them with food, also interacting with them sociality as the residents have no family & there is minimal state support. Another project will be going to a local village school & building accommodation units. Currently, children who live 20km away walk to and from school each day. Students who live further away will have an education for the first time by using the accommodation that we build. We will also be helping, students with their education, including working with students who do not read, write or speak. Our teachers will help us with this. The last project is working with lions & elephants. We will be working with orphaned lions, helping to look after them, likewise, the same with the elephants. We will also be working in the game park doing snare sweeps to remove the snares that poachers use. If an animal is caught in a snare they suffer a long & painful death over many days, something we want to stop.
The work will support the charities ALERT & The Butterfly Tree Trust, a UK charity that does fantastic work for children in Africa. As students, we are privately raising our own expenses for completing the expedition, but need to raise £7000 for the charity work, including building materials at the school, paint & food at the old peoples home & resources at the orphanage. By giving you will not be support our costs, but supporting the charity work.
