Story

"I am competing in the 'Race to the Stones' on Saturday 14th July which is a 100k ultra-marathon! This is a 1-day race that traces the ancient ridgeway from the Chilterns all the long long long way to historical stones at Avebury. What better way to welcome the onset of my midlife crisis.

Prior to committing to this race the furthest I had run was 30 kilometres in an earlier failed attempt to train for the London Marathon. So over the past 3 months have been breaking new ground and having now managed to complete a full marathon in training without anything important falling off i feel ready to tackle the double. I just wish the weather would warm up a bit...

The real reason for taking on this challenge is to raise some funds for the Arrows Group Foundation. which we set up back in 2015 with the express intention of helping support, care for and mentor vulnerable children who don’t have access to the type of family or support most of us take for granted.

Over the past few years we have been able to fully fund two orphanages for young girls in Delhi, India to provide them the safe secure environment they need to be able to complete their education and step into meaningful employment. I have spent time with the girls at thee homes and they really are essential in giving them a shot at a future that all kids deserve. These require ongoing investment and we have more planned.

We have set up a new board of trustees this year (welcome to Charlie and Millie Sell and my wife Sam) and we are excited about getting started on a number of exciting new projects all dedicated to the care, support, employment readiness and mentoring of the kids that need it the most. More info to follow and you can learn more at http://www.arrowsgroupfoundation.org/

All this great work needs funding and I hope you don’t mind me reaching out. For those that might need a little extra motivation to get over the line I hope that the knowledge that any funds you might give can be directly aligned to a significant level of suffering I am preparing to experience on Saturday. So please sponsor me if you can!"

The Arrows Group Foundation is proud to work a number of children’s causes around the world all of which are focused on supporting disadvantaged children in having the best chance in life. We primarily focus on causes like care, education, employment readiness and mentoring.

We raise funds to support projects we care about and are also looking forward to a busy year of volunteering. Where possible we will look to utilise our expertise in the HR and Employment sector to support and mentor young adults into work.

Feet up for the last two days...gentle run today and then the unappealing prospect of a sports massage with Stan the Russian!

Single Marathons are wrong...the idea of finishing one and then carrying on is doubly wrong. We salute you James.
