    Story

Cancer Prevention and control in Uganda (CPCU) is an NGO registered in Uganda to carry it's activities in areas of cancer awareness, advocacy and support of cancer victims.

CPCUs objective is to create awareness in all areas of cancer prevention through community outreach programs, advocate and support cancer patients, cancer orphans, families affected, improve the quality of life through education and advocacy in collaboration with government and NGOs.

There is only one government cancer treatment center which is overwhelmed with patients who end up buying drugs, paying for other services and other private cancer treatment centers are concentrated in Kampala. Many families cannot afford the expenses attributed by cancer disease, they languish in village homes in pain with excruciating suffering for themselves and their families, a few go to Hospital spend everything on treatment & bereavement expenses. Treat cancer patients & educate orphans in Uganda will treat those who can't afford treatment and educate cancer orphans.

The high cost of cancer treatment and associated expenses (medical tests, transport, food and bereavement) devastate families that use them and rural poor families can't afford. This leaves orphans without support and becoming beggars and thieves. When children's basic needs are not met their opportunities diminish and the vicious cycle of poverty sets in.

This project will support rural poor cancer patients by providing access treatment, psycho-social support, food, afford transport avoid missing treatments and get cured. Supporting cancer orphans will enable them access quality education not become vulnerable and beggars, foster parents relieved from the burden of paying school fees, mentoring orphans would build confidence, enable them maintain discipline, study, and encourage them become leaders.
