Story

Hello, my name is Caitlen. I’m hoping to raise £1000 for the NICU at Royal Preston Hospital in memory of my son, Arthur, who spent his life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Without the support of the incredible team around my baby, I wouldn’t have been fortunate enough to spend the time that I did with him.

As a parent, my biggest fear was that my baby’s story ended in the NICU.

I want to carry on his legacy, his name and his story. I would love to do this by bringing a sensory playroom to the ward (Arthur’s Playroom).

The hope is that Arthur’s Playroom can be used by siblings and families of babies staying on the NICU, and would include a small soft play area, sensory toys and interactive toys that can also be taken into the nursery / rooms on the ward.

I would also love to decorate all of the rooms on the NICU to feel more baby-friendly, and less “medical” feeling for parents.

This will mean that parents won’t have to focus on the medical equipment and the beeping of machinery, and can focus on the room being their baby’s bedroom instead.

Especially because for some children, just like Arthur, this will be the only bedroom they ever have.

I appreciate that not everybody has something to give, but even sharing Arthur’s story would mean the world to me.

If you do have anything to spare, then any donation - big or small - would be hugely appreciated.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read mine and Arthur’s story,

Caitlen x
