Story

This page is made in loving memory of Arthur Scott Michael Clifford this is his, his mummys and daddys story we hope to raise enough to give this brave baby boy the send off he deserves and help towards any expenses his funeral may incur so that his mummy and daddy dont need to worry about money at this tragic time, please take the time to read, any donations would go a long way and will be apreciated greatly at his parents time of grief and heartache, this is Arthurs story.....

On the 1st of August this year Arthurs mummy was admitted to labour and delivery in derriford hospital at 21 weeks and 4 days pregnant with her first baby, a baby boy, She had had severe pains and bleeding a day after a growth scan, where doctors had mis diagnosed/expressed fears the baby she was carrying could be down syndrome, the shock, upset, and fear for her baby sent her into early labour, upon arriving at the hospital and being examined Arthurs mummy was told she was 4cm dialated and there was nothing they could do other then keep her on complete bedrest, she wasnt to move, sit up or put any pressure on her lower half incase her waters broke. The nurses and Midwives looking after Arthurs mummy told her to expect the worse, and if he did come hed be severly disabled, his body and lungs would be immature and even if he came out moving and crying all she could hope for was a cuddle and a goodbye as they werent allowed to interveen/help keep Arthur Alive at that many weeks gestation, all of Arthurs family felt helpless, we didnt have hope because the midwives had said it would be a very rare miracle that hed survive, Even with all this information, all her confusion, heartache and fears Arthurs mummy stayed positive and strong she had hope for her baby boy, she knew he would fight, he would make it to 23 weeks (where his life would be classed as “viable”and they would try their best to save him) she prayed every night for 17days that hed hold on, on the 16th of august, the midwifes and doctors had decided that Arthur was strong and he was making it to 23 weeks regardless of the odds, so his mummy was transfered to Bristols Southmead Maternity ward where her and Arthurs daddy was made to feel safe, hopeful and cared for Everyone started to believe Arthurs mummy was right he was going to make it!... the next day, Arthurs daddy went back to plymouth to grab clothes and essentials and was due back the next day, only whilst he was in plymouth he got news that Arthur was coming, after crying to midwives she couldnt do it, and she was scared all on her own Arthurs mummy gave birth to him, a beautiful tiny bundle of perfection, kicking and screaming at 4.20am on the 17th of August Weighing a tiny 1lb 6oz She touched her little boys face and got a quick glimpse of him before he was rushed to NICU, he was breathing great for a baby born so early, amazing all the staff at the NICU, and his mummy, daddy and all of his family he was doing amazing! Thats when we were all hopeful baby Arthur would make it, that he was a fighter.

On the 28th of august Arthurs mummy and daddy were given the news that Arthur had developed a blood clot on his brain and that he would need surgery soon to drain the fluid and relieve the pressure, they was again told to fear the worst and the worst again was death, by this time Arthurs mummy and daddy had a strong bond with Arthur, they had learned he would know when they were there because his heartrate would stabalize, they learned when they talked Arthur would get excited, kick his legs and grab their fingers through his incubator and Although heartbroken their son had yet another hurdle he had to jump they had faith in him that hed be okay and would make it, and he did.

On the 1st of septemeber Arthurs mummy turned 21! And although miles away from family and friends she was so happy and felt so blessed that she got her present early, so grateful Arthur was doing so well and overwhelmed with the all the love she had for this tiny precious baby boy, and finally 2 days after at 4 weeks and 6 days old she had her first cuddle with Arthur where they created an unbreakable bond, this moment was magic, precious a miracle.

In the coming days Arthur started to get tired easily, his heart rate was up and down and he was needing more oxygen to help him, unfortunatley he decided to pull his breathing tube out cutting his air supply off and resulting in him needing to be resuscitated and given a shot of adrenaline, midwives warned Arthurs mummy that if he was to do this again they may not be able to bring him back, the next few days Arthur still seemed to be needing more and more help, the midwives had discovered Arthur had an infection and started to administer anti biotics to fight it, the next night Arthurs mummy went to say goodnight to him, and was relieved to see everything was perfect, Arthurs heart rate , temprature and temperment was all stable and baby arthur was sound asleep, Arthurs mummy went to bed that evening to be woken by Arthurs daddy to say he had taken a turn for the worse, rushing to the NICU there was nothing they could do but stand by and watch their baby boy recieve adrenaline shots and cpr for 35 minutes, midwives and doctors whos hearts Arthur had touched with his feisty personality and his will for life gathered round his mummy and daddy and sobbed as they broke the news that baby Arthur had passed due to sepsis, Arthurs mummy and daddy were and still are devastated, they have expierianced pain no human should ever feel a heartache like no other, a life that is empty without their baby, the baby they longed for, fought for and loved more then anything in this world Arthurs parents wont be able to buy their son gifts, pay for a prom suit, school trips, family holidays or a wedding Arthurs funeral/ goodbye will be the only thing now that they can give their precious son and understandably want his day to be as perfect as he was 💔

on behalf of all of Arthurs Family we would like to thank everyone at Bristols Southmead neonatal intensive care unit, for giving shauna and Aiden the chance to have those precious days and moments with their beautiful son, and for looking after, working hard and most of all loving Arthur there is not enough words in the world we could use to show apreciation for your determination, hard work and hearts ❤️
