Story
Wendy, Steve and Ash are starting to ride around the coast of Great Britain in September. The first stage is a five day ride from Southampton to Truro, taking in the northern coast of the Isle of Wight. They hope to complete the whole of the British Coast by 2020, health, age and time permitting! They would like to raise a bit of money for Wolverhampton Alz Café, so if you wish to sponsor them, you can donate here.
Wolverhampton Alz Café is a monthly gathering where people with dementia and their families and friends can be together in a safe, welcoming environment, in the company of others in a similar situation , volunteers and health and social care professionals. It aims to provide emotional support and a chance to socialise, enjoy an evening of entertainment and have fun.
A typical evening at the Café starts with an informal chat with others over hoot or cold drinks. Then it's time to enjoy live music and entertainment, and even the opportunity to have a dance. It is an ideal time to get to know others in the same situation and share experiences. This can include talking informally to the helpers at the Café.
Food is provided and there is an opportunity to take part in a picture quiz throughout the evening. The only small charge made is for the purchase of a raffle ticket, otherwise everything else is provided free of charge.
Wolverhampton Alz Café operates independently of any statutory funding and is only able to run through the receipt of generous donations. The Café is well reocognised locally for what it achieves for people with dementia and their families, and this recognition was further highlighted last year when the chief volunteer (the manager, if you like) won an award for being the most inspirational leader of the year.
You can be sure that your donation is going to a worthy cause.
Thanks

7 years agoWell folks, Wendy Steve and I completed our ride on Saturday 9 September. The 5 days' cycling went as planned. The weather was mainly dry except for Friday, our penultimate day, when we got soaked. Lots of hills and strong winds, not forgetting the extra weight we were carrying (pannier bags), made it a tough ride. It was however enjoyable at the same time, with some of the best landscape and views the UK has to offer. If you wish to see a resume of each day, visit roundgb.blogspot.co.uk. A very big thank you for donating. Ash
