Story
On 11 September 2022, the Tax Team at Ashgates will aim to complete the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge. The Challenge involves climbing 3 of the largest peaks in Yorkshire being Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. The total route is 24 miles (38.6km) and includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent. The aim is to complete the hike within 12 hours.
The Team are taking part in the Challenge in order to support the firm’s charity of the year - Sam's Superheroes.
Sam's Superheroes was set up in memory of Sam Liew who tragically died in May 2021 from a rare epilepsy syndrome, aged just 5 years old. Febrile Infection Related Epilepsy Syndrome (F.I.R.E.S.) strikes out of the blue in previously healthy people, and the outcome of the condition is usually catastrophic. Whilst the cause is somewhat unknown, it is thought to be an exceptionally rare reaction to a common virus.
Sam’s Superheroes promote, fund and carry out:
- Emotional well-being activities centred around animals, crafting, the outdoors, music and nature - being the things that Sam loved most.
- Animal assisted therapeutic activities - Sam’s dog (Daisy) has trained as a Therapy Dog and visits local organisations and schools on behalf of Sam's Superheroes.
- Raise awareness of the exceptionally rare F.I.R.E.S.
The charity was set up by Sam’s mum – Rachel. Her story and the work she now does to help others in memory of her son really is inspirational, so any support would be massively appreciated.
