Story
St Mary's Kimbo School in Uganda are the sister school of Burhill Primary School in Hersham, Surrey. Burhill send out their old stock school uniforms to St Mary's as many of the children there are from poor families and unable to afford their own (orange) school uniform. Many of the children at St Mary's are orphans. The school is located in a remote part of Uganda without many teaching staff able to work there due to having to travel too far, hardly any of which are qualified, and not being able to be based by the school. St Mary's has no electricity, no water (children walk 4k to get it from a well), no books, no technology but they do have love and friendship with the children and families of Burhill Primary School. A fundraising evening with The African Children's Choir performing at the local church in Hersham hopes to raise money so that bursaries for more orphans can attend the school. They also would like a water supply and the teaching accommodation nearby. Just a Christmas raffle at Burhill was enough to fully fund proper purpose built toilet facilities at St Mary's, provide desks rather than the children have to sit on a dirty concrete floor and, of course, to get a water supply at school. A lot to do...but yet the children never grumble. They are happy with what they have and what they want most of all is to engage fully with the children of Burhill and families of Hersham. That is in hand. We absolutely concur with that partnership, but in the meantime, let's also try and make life a little easier for them by giving practical/financial help to their three main aims on their wishlist. Please give what you can. Many thanks
