I've raised £2000 to Volunteer in Sri Lanka : To help encourage positive mental health in countries where mental health facilities are scarce.

In the summer of 2019 I will be travelling to Sri Lanka to volunteer with SLV Global. During my time there I will be working in the mental health sector within local communities who lack resources and staff to help promote positive mental wellbeing. I will be working entirely voluntarily (unpaid) 5 days a week with one of Sri Lanka's largest mental health institutions as an Activity Support worker which involves running therapeutic activities for service users who suffer from a range of mental health difficulties alongside a team of other SLV volunteers and professional staff. In addition to this, I will also be involved in teaching English to both children and adults. These are just two examples of the work I will be doing whilst out in Sri Lanka all of which I hope will benefit and leave a lasting impact on the communities and service users i'll work with.
This opportunity will have a huge impact on not only my future education and career prospects as you may or may not know but I am a currently an undergraduate Psychology student hoping to pursue a career in the mental health sector but also will be an invaluable experience personally. Living and working for 4 weeks immersed in a completely different culture will be extremely rewarding and will also begin to prepare me to work in a profession which demands adaptability and openness.
Unfortunately, this placement is not cheap and although I will undeniably be in a beautiful country it will not be a holiday and I am working part time alongside my studies to save for the fee's this alone won't be enough to cover it. Aswell as placement fee's I'll have to pay for flights, insurance etc. That's why I'm reaching out to you all for any donations you can offer to help me on this journey, all donations big or small are massively appreciated ,every little helps! I will share photographs and updates on how the trip went for everyone who donates and for every person who donates £10 or more I promise to bring you back a postcard filling you in on my time there!
Thank you so much for taking time to read my story and thank you in advance for all your donations!
