Story
It's a rather ambitious number I know. It's what it'll cost to send a bright, young asylum seeker from Afghanistan to school. He's so bright in fact that he's already done all the free courses. That's why now, if he wants to progress in his education, he needs money. If we raise this money it will put him onto a course which will get him into university. This is his dream. One which was cut short when he had to flee from his country, leaving his university studies, as well as his family and friends, behind. Being kept from studying, which he loves, is a tragedy not only because he has already had a very unfortunate life, but because he's clever. Really, really clever. And his potential isn't being realised because of bad fortune. But we can help him.
By himself he has no way to make this money because asylum seekers are prohibited from working and get just £35 a week for everything; food, clothes, travel, haircuts .....everything. This makes life stressful, but also very boring. There are limited things you can do with £35 a week. And being left alone with your thoughts when you have been through trauma, I imagine, isn't easy. But a good course to keep his clever mind occupied that will give him a bright future would give him something meaningful to do and ensure he doesn't miss his potential.
We have until September 2018 (or 2019 if we miss it) to make the money and I'm pretty sure we can do it. If, for any reason he can no longer do the course (the home office can be tricky) then we will donate the money to helping destitution asylum seekers who have their £35 a week and accommodation removed. Equally if we do not make enough money we will also donate at we do make to the same cause or, if we manage to make even more than we need we will donate any extra also to destitute asylum seekers.
If you want to know anything else do feel free to message me. The only thing I can't tell you is who the asylum seeker is because, understandably, he wants to keep his privacy.
