The Atherton Community Hub Project Mission Statement.

This project will see the transformation of approximately 20,000 square feet of empty space on the top floor of Victoria mill into a central access point in the community for services, advice and information on a daily basis. Outside of normal working hours the space will then provide an area for young people to spend their time that is safe, friendly and offers opportunities for vocational skills and training in a range of subjects. The Hub will work with a dual focus of both providing much needed space for local service providers in the area to improve the provision of services to local residents, whilst offering the young people a consistent and easily accessible recreational area.

The Hub will provide a number of full, part time and volunteer jobs, enhance the opportunities for the education of young people and adults in various topics and social wellbeing whilst offering a safe place for all age groups to relax, have fun and meet new people with games areas and internet cafe. The workshops will provide an educating environment learning a trade or hobby such as Arts and crafts, Motor Mechanic, Tech Hub, Photography and others which will be running on a daily basis. A cafe area to provide homemade food and educating U18's and adults on healthy lifestyle, cooking and traditional baking. Other activities to include fitness classes, film nights and activity days for all ages. We are also establishing links with other networks to develop ways of improving the local community and opportunities for its young people.

This community hub will be a centre point for a community network that is accessible on a 7 day per week basis, providing much needed provision for the residents to seek the help, support, advice and direction that they need. We will engage as many sections of society as possible to bring them together and enable them to change their own futures, becoming self-reliant and confident in the futures of themselves and the area that they live. The Hub will continue to listen to the needs of its residents and the advice of service providers to ensure that what we deliver through the Hub always serves to improve upon the outcomes for the local residents and betters the prospects of the community.

Our vision for the community of Atherton is to provide a wide variety of activities which aim to target a good percentage of Atherton’s residents, making the hub a welcoming and nurturing space with opportunity to improve employability and attainment while also encouraging residents to become more involved with their local community. This community space will develop and grow over the course of the next few years into a centre to provide for all ages led and delivered by the community, for the community.
