I've raised £2500 to help the Orthoptic Department at Leicester Royal Infirmary

Hi, Thank you for coming onto our fundraising page. Our 2023 mission is to help raise money for the Orthoptic Department at Leicester Royal Infirmary. We have chosen this due to a very personal connection we have with this department. Two years ago our son developed an eye condition called Vernal Keratoconjunctivitis (VKC). This is a seasonally recurring severe form of allergic inflammation affecting the ocular surface of the eye.
This relatively uncommon type of allergic eye disease can cause severe damage to the ocular surface, leading to corneal scarring and vision loss if not treated properly. As a family we found it challenging to help our son adapt to the change of lifestyle due to his eyes. All children with this disease have to undergo evasive checks and continuous treatment.
The Orthoptic Department does an amazing job helping children of all ages to get on with day-to-day life whilst having this disease. However, they require additional modern machinery to carry out vital checks on the eyes. This will make it easier and less uncomfortable for the patients. As we all know, funding within the NHS is not great and anything we can do to help will make a huge difference.
So, to show our support we have decided to take on the grueling 'Leicester 10K Run' on Sunday 16th April 2023 at Abbey Park, Leicester. We are both preparing to take on this 10K and aim to beat our previous best times.
Please use our fundraising page as your contribution to charity. We appreciate your support to help all young children with this incurable eye condition. Together we can ensure that their visits to the hospital are comfortable and easier by equipping the Orhoptic Department with more modern technology.
We thank you in advance. Any donation will make a huge difference to our run but more importantly to the lives of these amazing children.
