Weʼre raising £15,000 to help fund a Women's and Children's Clinic in south-eastern Ethiopia
- Gurage, Ethiopia
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
We are in the midst of the final bits of building, painting, furnishing, and stocking our Women's and Children's Clinic in Zebidir, Gubrye, south-eastern Ethiopia. Its a Clinic that will provide skilled and compassionate healthcare and healing, led by an amazing team of local nurses and midwives.
The Clinic has three wonderful, experienced midwives to see women through their childbirth experience, offering love, support, advice, and most of all empowerment. There are daily support circles where women and men can come together over buna (coffee) for peer-support and education, with clinicians on hand to answer any queries, on topics such as contraception, sexual health, and HIV/AIDS education, and child welfare. We also have a volunteer lawyer and volunteer policeman joining us one day a week for a sexual violence support group, where women, if they wish, can report sexual violence crimes in a safe, caring, and confidential environment.
We have a small but enthusiastic laboratory team who work magic with their one microscope (of which we are very proud, especially given it's long journey via several weeks in Kenya!), and a fantastic Emergency Room for treating minor injuries and accidents, and stabilising the bigger ones prior to transfer to the referral hospital.
We are raising money to cover the costs of the medicines, the staff university fees (one the things we are most proud of is that all our clinical staff are enrolled in university, either during the summer or for each weekday morning), some final bits of building (like a fence and door instead of the corrugated iron we have at the moment!), and to ensure that our poorest patients can have access to free healthcare.
Ideally, we'd love to buy an ultrasound machine, a proper autoclave (sterilizing instruments), and a CBC machine and centrifuge for the ever patient but long-suffering laboratory who ask every day if we've managed to get them anything yet.... so anything extra raised will go towards that!
