Story

Hurricane Irma, the most powerful Atlantic Ocean hurricane in recorded history, has passed through the British Virgin Islands, the Caribbean and onto the US, leaving behind a trail of devastation. We are only just beginning to understand the extent of the devastation caused. We have a personal connection to the Island of Tortola as Mr Parsons’ mother and step-father made the decision to emigrate to Tortola at the beginning of 2017 and his brother has been a resident on the island for the past five years. Fortunately, his family survived the onslaught although their property has been demolished but it has meant that we have had a very personal account of the horrific experience of the disaster.

Augusta House are undertaking a swimathon with the target of reaching 55.7km (2,228 lengths), the surface area of Tortola, the biggest island in the BVI. All monies will be donated to Virgin Unite’s BVI Community Support Appeal. Virgin Unite, Unite BVI and Virgin Limited Edition will work together with local organisations to identify the ongoing needs of affected individuals, families and communities impacted by this disaster. They will support the efforts on the ground and provide assistance as those affected start to recover. We need to raise as much money as possible to help those in urgent need. If you would like to support this fundraising effort then please donate. Thank you!
