Story
I am funding the opportunity for local children to attend alternative education programs; courses that have a emphasis in working with animals, arts, carpentry, gardening and 1:1 social and emotional support.
Currently there is no funding available for these programs and this means that not all children can afford to go. It also means that they are unable to continue long term with alternative assisted learning.
For some autistic children the ability to develop the social and emotional key skills; through working in an environment that has an alternative interest is paramount to their achievements later on in life.
The programs are experimental approaches to working with young people; to explore body language and behaviour as well as reflecting on relationships around them and their emotions. Each young person sets and works towards personal goals, develop confidence and overcome their own fears, as well as developing problem skills.
Each programme explores identity, family history, dreams, goals, friendships, communication, boundaries and other areas tailored to individual needs.
I believe these alternative programs should be available not to who can afford it but those who require the help.
Schools have no budget and grants will not provide funding to cover alternative therapy or education.
Quite simply the more funding that is raised the more children who will benefit from the scheme. Children will be awarded a place based on need.
Monies raised will be directly given to the education courses and places will be offered when there is no means for that child to pay for their place on the course.
