Story
UPDATE - As the Nightingale tour was completed within six days. The #AUWFC are now attempting to complete 2020 miles before the three weeks (10th May) is up. They finished day 6 on 547 miles.... 1473 to go please spread the word... Also watch out for some pics of a fancy dress nature....
Grassroots football isn't everything but it is a lot to the people involved. The running costs associated within football are high even when you do not pay players wages. The recent Covid-19 outbreak has meant a cancellation of a lot of events at Abingdon United from musical acts, christening celebrations through to the hosting of cup finals. All that bring vital income to keeping the club at the heart of the community.
There is so much being done to help raise essential funds for the NHS and we would like to recognise the hard work of the Abingdon Community Hospital by raising some cash for them too.
How are we going to do this?
Like many football clubs across the country players (and staff) are finding ways to keep fit as well as staying safe.
In the next three weeks (20th April to 10th May) to the #AUWFC players and staff will be completing a hypothetical tour of the current NHS Nightingale Hospitals. Starting in Exeter, through to Bristol, London, Birmingham, Manchester, Harrogate before finishing in Washington (Sunderland). The total miles if you walked this tour would be 520 miles. Collectively the #AUWFC family will complete this by walking, running, cycling or even using home gym equipment such as a treadmill or rowing machine.
To put into context if the whole 'Whatsapp' group were able to take part that is 20 miles each in three weeks. Alongside their usual jobs and family lives.
We will post daily updates and mileage leaderboards so you can track the 'success'.
Please feel free to post encouraging messages, maybe even interesting challenges for the team to do whilst carrying out activity and most importantly please donate :)
