Story
Amber Valley Gymnastics Academy is based near Ripley, Derbyshire and now has over 600 members, with the majority of members coming from within Derbyshire but many travelling for miles to be part of the club.
As well as the growth in grass root membership, which has increased participation in sport in the local area the club has enjoyed tremendous success with gymnasts picking up medals at County, Regional and National levels and also having a member of the tumbling squad being selected for the GB performance pathway foundation squad.
Classes offered range from pre-school sessions, general recreational classes at beginner through to advanced levels, ‘Free G’ gymnastics which targets teenagers and is popular with boys, specific tumbling and women’s artistic gymnastics in its purpose designed facility.
The passion, drive and commitment of the coaches shines through the gymnasts in their happiness and dedication to their sport. As with any successful club there are always issues with equipment- either it needs updating, or, there simply isn’t enough of it!!!!!
In order to maintain training and happiness at all levels in the gym we are looking to raise as much money as possible to fund the purchase of new equipment, matting and helping these talented people flourish in the sport they love so much.
The challenging nature of gymnastics requires commitment and concentration. The structure of gymnastics lessons teaches children how hard work and dedication pays off. Positive experiences in gymnastics can build confidence through achievement, and illustrates to children that commitment to sport benefits them. Rules and codes of conduct in gymnastics help children learn the importance of rules for safety, and teach respect toward others.
Partaking in gymnastics can help children sleep better, and equip them with skills to better handle physical and emotional challenges in life.
Gymnastics is one of the most comprehensive lifestyle exercise programs available to children, incorporating strength, flexibility, speed, balance, coordination, power, and discipline. Whether they are involved in recreational gymnastics or with a competition squad, skills learned in gymnastics can benefit a child’s overall development.
10 coaches, club members, dads and friends of the club are going to be cycling from Whitehaven, Cumbria 140 miles over two days (19&20/4/19) via the Coast 2 Coast cycle route to Newcastle. The riders will be funding the whole trip themselves and every single penny raised will be going straight to the club to keep it on the right path, marching forward to the success that these special gymnasts and coaches deserve. The club and riders will be so grateful of any help and support.
