Story
As many people know Maisie’s journey started in February 2016 following the diagnosis and subsequent resection of a tumour located in her brainstem. This surgery left her in intensive care, unable to move, eat or breath without a ventilator. Since her diagnosis Maisie has undergone 10 surgeries, 23 MRI scans, 6 weeks intense radiotherapy, 18 months of weekly chemotherapy, and countless hospital stays. Throughout this Maisie has remained focused on the hope that she can regain movements to give her some independence. To our amazement in June this year Maisie was successfully weaned off the ventilator and had her tracheostomy removed which was a huge achievement. Since 2016 we had hoped Maisie could get a placement at The Children’s Trust in Surrey which is a brain injury rehab centre and sadly we came up against many barriers for this, however, finally, following her years of hard work, in August 2021 when we finally got her a place. She made some absolutely AWESOME progress during the 10 weeks she spent there and with the daily physiotherapy, occupation therapy and also the use of many different gadgets and gizmos we finally seemed to be getting somewhere!!! As Maisie grows so do her needs and therefore we are now looking to her future as an adult, and the biggest part of this is where she will live. As with any young person, we want her to have independence and a place of her own but also we need to keep her nearby so that we can still provide the daily care..... we have discussed our options and we feel that the best way to do this would be to build an annexe at the end of our garden.....💜Project Awesome Annexe 💚. We have applied to BBC's DIY SOS but I am sure they are inundated with requests so we need to have plan B. If you can help by donating either financially or in any other way, as always, it would be greatly appreciated.💜💚Team Awesome facebook page
