We are raising funds for the Baby Bereavement Suite, known as ‘the Butterfly Suite’ at King’s Mill Hospital.

Our precious baby, Axel Ricky-George Northage, was born sleeping on 30th September.

Initially, we were placed in a standard clinical suite, typically used for couples recovering from a C-section. We later learned that we were not the only family experiencing such a heartbreaking loss at that time, two other families were also grieving their babies. After three days in that room, sleeping on a pullout chair, we were transferred to the Butterfly Suite when another family felt ready to leave.

The Butterfly Suite became our own little haven, a peaceful space that felt a million miles away from the hospital environment. It allowed us to spend four more precious days with Axel. The suite includes a double bed, a self catering kitchen, and the comfort of unrestricted visiting hours so that family and friends can come and say their goodbyes.

We were able to have this extended time with Axel thanks to another incredible family who had previously raised funds to donate a Cuddle Cot after the loss of their own baby. A Cuddle Cot is a special cooling cot that allows bereaved parents to spend more time with their baby, time that would otherwise not be possible. These cots cost around £5,000, yet the gift of those extra days was truly priceless to us and to every family who has the chance to say goodbye in their own time.
