Weʼve raised £10 to help fund the renovation plans of the swimming pool at our local state school, Oakdale Junior in South Woodford.

    Story

4 dads running 10 miles on an army designed obstacle course, called the Paras 10, carrying a weight of 35lbs and wearing boots and army fatigues!😅

    Background:

Given the ongoing cuts to school budgets over the past few years resulting in funding for teachers being cut, we are raising money to fund the renovation of our local state school, Oakdale Junior‘s, swimming pool.

    The problem:

The outer covering of the swimming pool is not fit for purpose, having big gaping holes, which means the pool can only be used during the summer, cannot be fully maximised by the local community and faces a risk of being shut down due to the local council not having the funds to allocate for the refurbishment.

    The solution:

We have the approval from the council for the renovation and updating of the swimming pool with a new outer covering, including a mezzamine viewing gallery, new changing areas, a reception area.

The estimated costs is around £500k and we have pre approved match funding. So we need to raise £250,000. The initial funds will be used to pay for the architectural designs to achieve full plannimg permission.

With a renovated pool covering, the children at Oakdale Junior would be able to swim all year round and become an income generating resource.

We would be able to rent the swimming pool out to other local state schools, which would enhance access to a pool for these children who do not current have one as well as to swimming clubs, generating a perenial income for the school, which Oakdale Junior would be able to use to fund more teaching resources for the local children for a very long time!
