Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, the purpose of this is to raise money for the Alzheimer's disease.
I want to challenge myself for a great cause.
I aim to play my part and will be trekking to 'The Great Wall of China' on 13th October 2018 to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society. I will be pushing myself through some of the highest, harshest, un-inhabitable and challenging environments in one of the seven wonder of the world as I take on a 5-day trek.
I am fully funding the trip myself so ALL money raised will go to Alzheimer’s Society. I am sponsored by my work so every pound donated will be doubled! Hence, I am aiming to raise £1000 so that Alzheimer’s Society will receive £2000.
It is a challenge of twists, turns, ups and downs. Beginning 4 hours north of Beijing, my challenge takes me on a series of vigorous upwards climbs of 10,000 relentless steps over the course of a week. As the days progress we follow the winding path along the mountains that spread either side of the Gubeikou Gateway.
This is in aid of delivering lifesaving essential help people to fight from the Alzheimer diseases.
What is Alzheimer's disease?
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia. The word dementia describes a set of symptoms that can include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language. These symptoms occur when the brain is damaged by certain diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease.
Alzheimer’s disease, named after the doctor who first described it (Alois Alzheimer), is a physical disease that affects the brain.
During the course of the disease, proteins build up in the brain to form structures called ‘plaques’ and ‘tangles’. This leads to the loss of connections between nerve cells, and eventually to the death of nerve cells and loss of brain tissue.
People with Alzheimer’s also have a shortage of some important chemicals in their brain. These chemical messengers help to transmit signals around the brain. When there is a shortage of them, the signals are not transmitted as effectively.
Current treatments for Alzheimer’s disease can help boost the levels of chemical messengers in the brain, which can help with some of the symptoms. Alzheimer’s is a progressive disease. This means that gradually, over time, more parts of the brain are damaged. As this happens, more symptoms develop. They also become more severe.
Together we can give hope and inspiration to not only our future generations but to the elderly victims of the ongoing disease.
Your donation will make a huge difference , 100% your contribution will be going towards a great cause where urgent medical attention is needed.
Please spread the word, with every good wish .
