Story
4 Weeks ago a couple I hold very dear welcomed their first born, Arthur. This was a very joyous time but even on his very first day his mum, Alex, noticed something was wrong. Arthur was diagnosed quickly with a tongue tie, a not un-common condition where the tongue is attached too tightly to the bottom of the mouth. Usually, when a tie is cut, the baby is then able to feed easily, or at least fairly well. Unfortunately this has not been the case with Arthur.
Alex and Colin both hoped Arthur would be breastfed, but he is not able to do this - in fact he is not able to comfortably feed from a bottle either. The last 4 weeks have not included lots of happy visits with friends, relaxing strolls in the park, hours spent just gazing at their new baby... They have been busy weeks trying to help Arthur learn to use his tongue - they have had victories but are still far from the finish line.
I have set up this crowdfunder to just ask see if anyone can perhaps just donate a few pounds to help towards the costs they have incurred trying to help Arthur and to help pay for some ongoing support. Colin and Alex would not ask for themselves but I have convinced them to let me ask for them.
Costs so far have gone beyond £300 and have included specialist advice and treatments. An electric pump to help Alex keep her milk supply up to feed Arthur with as much of her milk as possible, special bottles to try and make feeding easier and for a Doula (person who gives birth and early days baby support) to come in and help for a few hours a week while Colin is at work.
Ongoing another specialist appointment would be beneficial and a buffer to pay for more physical help at home from someone who knows how best to support new mums.
This isn't about which way to feed a baby - its just about two parents trying to help their baby feed happily - full stop.
