    Story

Support a refugee family residing in Turkey.

15 month old baby Rayan was born amidst the brutally of conflict after his young parents fled the bombing of Ma'arrat al-Nu'man. Finding no safe place in which to care for their newborn, they made the dangerous journey to Turkey. Policy changes and growing hostilities have resulted in legitimate refugees being refused the right to be given refugee status. Without the necessary documentation, they fear walking the streets and run the risk of detention and deportation to the war zone. Another consequence is that they are prevented from accessing free public healthcare, making this family’s predicament all the more precarious. Little Rayan has an eye condition called Strabismus as a result of pressure on the brain which caused neurological damage. His condition is deteriorating and Rayan displays signs of distress, regularly raising his hand to close the eye he can’t see through. Having no choice but to seek advice from a private doctor, they have been told that his condition is operable, but at a cost. The impact of COVID-19 has compounded the suffering of refugees in Turkey. Most of the businesses employing Syrians are exploitative in the extreme, but even then, so many businesses have closed that employment is almost impossible to find. During the last few months, the family have incurred debts they cannot hope to repay, and every day, the debts increase. The aim of this fundraiser is to pay for corrective eye surgery, to pay off debts and to cover living expenses for a couple of months giving us breathing space to find a long term solution. We hope that you will dig deep to help this lovely boy and his doting parents. We know times are hard for everyone, but few will experience the level of deprivation, horror and fear this lovely family have endured for so long. Please give this family the opportunity to protect their baby and to live with a little stability - something they have never experienced before.

Here’s how your donations will help. Eye surgery: £1450 Debts: £1650 Rent for 2 months:£320 Food and baby milk for 2 months: £240 Utility Bills: £160

    Thank you.
