I'm raising £10000 to Support Cancer Research UK and raise awareness of LEMS & Men's Mental Health, by participating in a "backroad" rally around the Balkans.

🚖 7,000km. 11 Countries. 1 Very Old Taxi.
This July, we—Steve, Jon, and Lewis—are taking on an epic challenge: driving a 500,000-mile London taxi across 7,000km and 11 countries in the Balkans as part of the Pothole Rodeo rally.
We’re doing this to raise money and awareness for three amazing causes:
Cancer Research UK – because cancer has affected our lives directly.
MIND UK – to support those struggling with their mental health.
MyAware.org – to raise awareness for rare diseases like LEMS.
In 2023, Steve was diagnosed with Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome (LEMS), a rare autoimmune disorder that affects just 1 in 2.5 million people. It’s often linked to small-cell lung cancer, and unfortunately, Steve is one of the 50% for whom that’s true.
As a result of his condition, he had to surrender his driving licence—something that had a massive impact on his independence and mental health. This journey is Steve’s way of taking back control, raising awareness, and showing that life doesn’t stop after diagnosis.
Jon, 25 years ago, had a cancerous tumour removed from his lung. He’s still here—proof that there are always positive stories to tell.
We’re joined by Lewis, founder of Takona, who uses cars to bring people together and help men open up about mental health. Together, we’re using this wild road trip to support causes that truly matter.
We’ve personally covered the entry fee and core vehicle costs. Any money raised here will go directly to supporting our three charities and help cover:
Fuel, Accommodation & Basic running costs, but most importantly, fundraising for cancer research, mental health support, and rare disease awareness.
We’ll be sharing updates along the way at Takona.co.uk, so you can follow our progress—breakdowns, mountain passes, and all!
Please donate whatever you can. Every pound makes a difference.
This isn’t just a road trip—it’s a fight for hope, health, and a better future.
Thank you so much for your support.
