Story

Educate a girl,Educate the world,when you invest in girls education,she feeds herself,her children,her community,and her nation...

I have chosen to support Katsukunya Primary School through provision of stationery and supporting girls that are high performers yet disadvantaged. Katsukunya Primary School is a rural school in the Mashonaland East Province of Zimbabwe. This school has a special place in my heart as my late mum was a former student at this school however dropped out of year 6 due to poverty and culture then favoured more the boy child. It’s my dream to find a way to make education happen to the disadvantaged children at this school more so ensuring the girl child that is performing well yet disadvantaged is awarded an opportunity to pursue her dreams.

I believe every child should have access to the basic tools to help them fit in and achieve at school, which is critical in helping to break the poverty cycle.

I would like to raise funds to buy stationery for 150 kids and sponsor 10 girls school fees. The school has 563 students enrolled. I recently had the privilege to visit Katsukunya Primary and met up with a couple of teachers and toured the school. Definitely there is a lot that needs to be done from borehole (access to clean water), classroom furniture, classroom finishing’s and more. In this digital era it is sad to note there is actually no single computer at the school, what was especially heart breaking was the Early Child Development block, there is just need to re-equip it to ensure toys that work for cognitive development are availed to this age group.

Speaking to the headmaster almost one quarter of the school can not afford to have stationery each term, some kids do no even have school uniforms. Given the economic crisis in Zimbabwe, let alone the drought that has hit across the country, most parents in the rural areas have been incapacitated. Majority of the parents cannot afford the basics that we take for granted, this leads to some students dropping out of school completely because they cannot afford the expense of the uniform, stationery and other stuffs. The cost of school fees is beyond reach of many.I believe in all things you start somewhere, I have chosen to cover stationery for 150 kids. Lord permitting, we will move to other bigger issues as we progress.

I am appealing to all of you reading if you are blessed to spare even just £5 or even less you can help bring a smile on these vulnerable kids. If you can please consider going without a coffee or two this January or just missing one lunch for the whole month it will help send a child to school. As little as you can, no amount is too small. If you can kindly assist me, together we can change someone’s life. I’ll make sure I update you with photos and stories of the positive impact you would have been part of creating for the hundreds of kids at this school. I promised the headmaster that I’d do my best to help them with this.

I will utilise your kind donations to purchase stationery and make up Stationery Kits for children across the various age ranges. These will be distributed to children in need in May 2020. I will be running this initiative every term.

Your donation will literally change their world, not “the world” but their world. A smile, encouragement, motivation that someone cares, a guaranteed bright future.
