Iʼve raised £490 to create a commemorative monument to mark the tercentenary of James Baines' endowment to support education for children in Marton, Blackpool.

Funded on Thursday, 5th January 2017

    Story

This group has been set up to promote Marton's heritage and our appeal is to raise money for a commemorative stone to celebrate the tercentenary of Baines school.

We hope to have the stone in place by 9th January 2017, which is the 300th anniversary of the death of the school's founder James Baines.

This is probably the most important historical event in Marton's history and indeed covers a longer timeframe than most events in the history of Blackpool and the Fylde.

The stone will be sited on Marton Green (the old name for the Oxford traffic island).

      Update from the Page owner

Just a quick note to pass on our thanks for all your kind donations towards our fund, they were all very much appreciated and we could not have completed our project without all your help. The stone has now been unveiled on Marton Green (now the Oxford traffic island) and it looks wonderful. There are photos and videos of the unveiling on Marton's Past & Marton Heritage Group on Facebook and articles also appeared in the Blackpool Gazette & the Lancashire Evening Post. Thank you
