What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is the new way to raise money for a personal cause on JustGiving.

This group has been set up to promote Marton's heritage and our appeal is to raise money for a commemorative stone to celebrate the tercentenary of Baines school.

We hope to have the stone in place by 9th January 2017, which is the 300th anniversary of the death of the school's founder James Baines.

This is probably the most important historical event in Marton's history and indeed covers a longer timeframe than most events in the history of Blackpool and the Fylde.

The stone will be sited on Marton Green (the old name for the Oxford traffic island).

I attended Baines Endowed in 1948 and will try and be there at the ceremony.

As with many others, I attended Baines (Grammar as it was back then) in Hardhorn. I am happy to donate to the memory of our Founder, James Baines.

My sons went to Baines Endowed Marton, but also it is right to acknowledge such a philanthropic legacy that is 300 years old.
