Story
A survey of London chefs by the Unite union last year reported that 51% said they suffer from depression due to being overworked, and nearly a third (27%) said they drink alcohol to see them through their shift.
This is shocking. We are a new charity called Baked Hospitality. We are trying to help employers to raise awareness in mental health in hospitality. We would like to use the donations in order to set up a website with a beacon so that anyone that works in hospitality can talk to someone that also works in hospitality. Workers can also apply to be a volunteer to listen to others.
Let's stop this drinking to try and get through a shift and let's talk about it.
I never had the support because employers never had the sources or time to talk to their employees. Even if I wanted to talk to someone, who would I talk too? Who would understand? Would they laugh?
We have the time, support and patience. Make that first step.

Until I decided enough was enough, I worked in kitchens for many years. I never had the support, but now it's time to change that.
