Story

Girls are an endangered species in India, literally

The only way out of early marriage or menial manual work and a life of poverty for most girls is education. The Indian government is striving towards free education for girls but it has a long way to go. Meanwhile parents are reluctant to spend scarce resources on educating because they do not see a “financial payback”. Girls get married and all benefits from education are lost. Such deeply rooted attitudes are irrelevant to modern India but very hard to change

I run a micro charity from home and need funds to bring change in the lives of more girls. The charity, Vidya Dhan, seeks out girls from poor families and sponsors their education. Vidya Dhan is an established charity based in England and all money raised goes to the school fees and ancillary educational expenses for girls in our scheme. There are no overheads
