Story
Having just about recovered from last year’s Great North Run, my brother and I are doing it all over again – this time to raise money for GemArts. It would also be a bonus if I could get a more flattering finish photo this year…
GemArts is a Newcastle-Gateshead based charity whose work brings together communities to celebrate diversity through art, music and dance projects. They rely on fundraising to continue bringing opportunities to people from all backgrounds and that’s where we come in.
Jamie and I are aiming to raise at least £200 by running the Great North Run 2017 – the world’s largest half marathon – on the 10th September. This is the first time anyone has ever run for GemArts so help us to make their first year one to remember by smashing our target.
Every donation will make a huge difference to the charity’s work supporting artists and communities. Their work includes:
• Helping bring free arts workshops to families in area of high deprivation.
• Enabling young people to take part in music making projects, developing new skills and raising their aspirations for the future.
• Offering mental health support groups the chance to take part in visual arts workshops which help to increase confidence and celebrate achievements through community exhibitions.
I’m also pleased to say that for every £1 we raise, Arts Council England have kindly offered to match that amount so all our fundraising efforts will be doubled. So even if you can only afford a couple of quid, your donation and support will make a huge difference.
GemArts is part of Gateshead Visible Ethnic Minorities Support Group (GVEMSG). Registered Charity number 1008100. To learn more about their work and to find out how your donation will make a difference visit www.gemarts.org.
