Weʼre raising £1,800 to fund the digital sound restoration of Med Hondo's Ballade Aux Sources.

Story

Hondo’s first short film, directed in 1965 in collaboration with his then colleague at French Radio, the journalist and photographer Bernard Nantet, takes place over three months of travelling in major cities within North Africa post-independence. Ballade Aux Sources deals with many themes that define Hondo’s work in pan-africanism and pre-colonial African history.

Ciné-Archives have digitised the unique 16mm reel of Ballade Aux Sources on the association's FilmFabriek 4K scan. However, the sound is still missing. Our fundraising goal is to gather an adequate budget to facilitate the specialised digitisation of two delicate magnetic sound reels. These reels are in suboptimal condition and require careful handling and processing. Upon completion, Ballade Aux Sources will be able to be watched in full by audiences worldwide.
