Story
The Leeds FAS2 team have become synonymous with completing difficult challenges to raise donations for local charities within Leeds. This will be our fourth and final volunteering event following the Mount Snowdon climb, cycle from Liverpool to Leeds and the Yorkshire 3 Peaks which has raised just short of £5,000 so far.
Being our final event, this will also be our biggest - The National Three Peaks! To climb Scotland, England and Wales largest mountains and all with 24hours. That's a walking distance of 23 miles ascending 3064 meters and driving over 769 miles.
This mammoth effort will be in aid of the Hollybush Conservation Center. The Conservation Volunteers protect, restore and care for both people and nature.
Involvement in green spaces benefits the health of individuals and communities through environmental volunteering, social inclusion, and learning new skills. Since 1979, Hollybush has been the West Leeds local, providing experiences in the natural environment both at the Centre with its urban gardens, workshops and community cafe, and across the city in community hubs, schools, parks and a variety of urban spaces and countryside fringes.
Hollybush work with disadvantaged Leeds communities with little access to vital green spaces, raising funds locally to support targeted groups of adults and children facing multiple challenges, and work closely with beneficiaries to ensure we deliver relevant projects that make a real difference.
Donations from the National Three Peaks Challenge will go towards ongoing accessibility improvement for staff and volunteers with reduced mobility for whom accessing the offices and meeting rooms. Also donations will go towards the bringing the front courtyard into use with improvement to surfacing, along with a potting shed, more growing areas and improved seating.
