    Story

Barbara's Borneo Trek for Epilepsy Lifestyle.

In June 2020 I am going to join a group of explorers and trek through the jungle of Borneo I promised a very dear friend of mine Fiona that I would raise money for a charity that has been of great help and support to her son Jude. Epilepsy Lifestyle.

Epilepsy Lifestyle is a small, family run charity, established at the beginning of 2014, operating with the mission to provide children and adults, diagnosed with any form of epilepsy, with solutions to help improve their quality of life.

Fiona and I have been friends for over 30 years and although we live 200 miles apart we have stayed friends throughout that time via letters (before mobiles ) and then when we learnt to drive being able to catch up and spend time together.

Her son Jude has suffered with Epilepsy his whole life and at the age of 9 started to have nighttime seizures. Unable to tell his mum during the night Fiona would find him in the mornings in a terrible state and this then stopped her from sleeping. She needed to know when her son was having seizures and with the help of Epilepsy Lifestyle Jude had a monitor on his bed and she could sleep again'.

According to SUDEP Action, SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy Patients) affects approximately 1 in every 1000 epilepsy patients per year. Whilst there have been no studies to show that a monitor/sleeping solution decreases the risk of SUDEP, the personal experience of the trustees, through facilitating a similar monitoring scheme, showed that families and patients found the monitors invaluable at alerting to seizures, therefore allowing them to administer medication and call for emergency services to attend if necessary.

Your help to raise funds for the monitors for other would be of great importance to the Charity and your support and faith in ME would be of great importance to me.

All funds raised will be going to the Charity .I will be paying for the trip myself.
