Story

26 years on... and the war in Somalia still continues. There has been civil unrest throughout Somalia for decades causing hardship and difficulties for many, especially women and children. The consequence of the war has been devastating for the inhabitants especially in Mogadishu and the cities surrounding it such as Brava.

Women and children have had to struggle finding medical assistance in war stricken areas throughout the years. Many in Brava have died walking to hospitals, unable to afford a ride to the nearest hospital either in Marka or Mogadishu. Others have had complications during birth without experienced midwives and specialists nearby. There has also been a rapid increase in maternal and child mortality over the decades.

How easy was it to access maternal care when you were pregnant, or maybe your wife, your sister or relative? Here in the Western world, we are fortunate enough to receive excellent care by qualified and experienced healthcare professionals. These women in Somalia are not so fortunate and they need our help. This is a humanitarian crisis; therefore we have come together as a community to do our part. We are working towards a vision of hope for these women and children by opening a Maternity & Child Health (MCH) hospital in Brava, Somalia.

The MCH project aims to:

• Protect and promote the health of mothers, children and families

• Reduce health disparities for women, infants, and children

• Increase the number of women, children, and families who receive preventive screenings, early identification, and intervention

• Increase the number of women, men, and families who have knowledge of and skills to promote optimal infant and child health, development, and growth

• Increase the number of women, children, and families who live in a safe and healthy community

The construction has already commenced on 27th September 2017, with the first donation of $2500 being used for the foundation of the building. The BARD organisation can only achieve its goals with the assistance of generous donations from all members of our society.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Best Regards,
