Story

Three Peaks Challenge

One in four people suffer from mental health issues with one person in agriculture sadly taking their own life each week, proving to be one of the biggest issues facing the industry today. A topic extremely close to the hearts of all of us at Barnard Castle Young Farmers Club.

We have decided to raise awareness for the sensitive subject and raise money for a local charity, If U Care Share Foundation based in Chester-le-Street. They aim to help listen and support the emotional wellbeing in young people and those affected by suicide, reminding people that it is okay not to be okay. So, on the 20th July 2019 eight members of Barney YFC have decided to take on the epic challenge of climbing the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales. A mentally and physically challenging 23 miles, ascending 10052 feet, twice the high of the of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, with 462 miles of driving, all to be undertaken within a gruelling 24 hours.

Ultimately the reason we are putting ourselves through this is to prove we can get through mental challenges together and raise money for people currently struggling. Pennies or pounds would be greatly appreciated for such a relevant cause.

We would like to thank UTASS for their help, especially donating their minibus and to Stuart Robson, a past Barney YFC member for kindly agreeing to drive us. We also want to thank you for donating to a charity which saves lives. We appreciate each and every donation.

And to anyone who isn’t feeling themselves, heres a message from us- you are not alone. You are not weak. You are loved. You‘re doing great, and we promise theres a sun shining at the top of the mountain.
