Story

Barnsley, South Yorkshire, UK – Four friends Steven Cannon, Dominic McCall, twins Connor & Josh Newsome are embarking on an extraordinary cycling journey to Barnsley’s twin town, Schwäbisch Gmünd in Germany, covering a remarkable distance of 1000km. This inspiring venture is set to commence from Barnsley on Friday, 19th July, with the duo tackling the first leg of their expedition to Hull, spanning 75 miles.

The journey will unfold over several stages, with the cyclists passing through Eindhoven in Holland, Cologne, the scenic Rhine Valley, Heidelberg, and culminating in Schwäbisch Gmünd. All the friends are proud members of the Barnsley Road Club, which is celebrating its centenary this year, marking one hundred years of cycling heritage and camaraderie.

The aims of this ambitious ride is to highlight the physical and mental benefits of staying active, foster stronger bonds with Cycling Clubs in Germany, and raise funds for two noble causes: the Barnsley Based LimbBo Foundation and the Dave Rayner Foundation.

The LimbBo Foundation is dedicated to supporting children with limb differences and their families. It provides a platform for connection, sharing experiences, and organizing activity days where children can meet peers with similar challenges. The foundation’s work extends to offering prosthetics, including 3D printed arms and bike adaptations, ensuring that no child is limited by their physical differences12.

The Dave Rayner Foundation, established in memory of the late cyclist Dave Rayner, has been supporting aspiring cyclists since 1994. Its mission is to nurture the future of cycling in the UK by empowering and supporting young cyclists, particularly those under 23 and from underrepresented groups. The foundation provides financial assistance, mentorship, and mental support to help these young athletes thrive in the competitive world of cycling34.

As they pedal towards a brighter future for many Barnsley Road Club invite the community to join them in spirit and support their cause. Donations can be made to the Just Giving Page , and updates on their journey will be shared, capturing the essence of their adventure and the goodwill it fosters.
