Al-Jamia Al-Islamia Barokut was established in 1931 in the Golapganj Upazila district in Sylhet.

The current room used for prayer in the Jamia is not large enough to accommodate the increasing number of students as well as the local people.

Our late grandfather, the former principal of the madrasah, Shaykhul Hadith Maulana Hussain Ahmad Barokuti (Rah.) had purchased a piece of land nearby upon which to construct a purpose-built Masjid. Qaddarallah, he was not able to fulfil this intention during his lifetime. May Allah accept his Niyyah and grant him the reward of Sadaqah Jariyah. Aameen.

Our eldest uncle (Maulana Shabbir Ahmad Barokuti), the current headteacher at the Jamia, along with the current principal (Maulana Abdul Bari), have now intended to fulfil this noble intention of building a Masjid on this land. But due to lack of funds, work is yet to be started.

The initial plan for the proposed Masjid is a single storey building which will cater for approximately 600 people on the ground floor alone. Future plans will include building more storeys on top.

We aim to start off with raising £100, 000 enough to build the ground floor halls and amenities.
