    Story

Barrhill Community Centre is an active and thriving community hub in Cumnock, East Ayrshire. Managed by volunteers and members of Cumnock Area Musical Production Society, the team have worked tirelessly over the past 6 years to bring this tired old building back into life and ensuring it is a welcoming, safe and inviting community space.

Ensuring sustainability and improving accessibility, safety, as well as enhancing the interior of the building to a modern and more welcoming standard has been a focus over the past few years.

We are now onto the next phase of the project and have been successful with a grant from the Scottish Landfill Fund for £45,000. The condition of the grant is that we need to raise £5000 to contribute to the refurbishment. Given the current circumstances it has been extremely difficult for us to hold fundraising events and therefore we are turning to the local community to support this phase of our project

This phase of the project will see us carry out the following improvements:

    1. Replacement of the outdated and well worn flooring and non slip personalised door mats throughout the premises. The flooring will be a mixture of carpets and non slip vinyl which will allow spaces to become multi purpose and suit the needs of our groups and members with who are visually impaired.

    2. Installation of a permanent ramp to our main front door to improve accessibility for all centre users.

    3. Install a new acoustic divide and soundproofing in our main hall in order to increase the centre capacity and available space for community groups to utilise.

    4. Internal redecoration of our main corridor and two of the main community spaces utilised by local organisations.

    5. Replace the perimeter fencing which is in poor condition with a more durable and sustainable galvanised metal fence.

    6. The purchase of community notice boards and a wall mounted television screen which would compliment the interior of the building and promote all of the local activities and groups which meet in the facility and the wider community.
