Story

Since the recent news about the passing of our dear friend Barry Kanesu after a short battle with cancer, the outpouring of love and amazing stories has made it clear that many people, from around the world, want to join together to honour and celebrate his abundant positivity and very special energy.

Barry's family has shared that his years at Goodenough were some of his happiest times. Many of us came to know him then, and others visiting this page will be from different periods in his life. One thing remains constant for us all: he touched our lives, his influence made us better people, and we were happier for knowing him.

The plan is to have a permanent plaque installed at Goodenough College, where he spent so many happy years, along with a scholarship fund in his name.

The minimum amount we need to raise is £1,000 for a plaque, and an additional £5,000 for a named scholarship. But we are hoping to raise much more than that so that the scholarship will continue for many years to come.

- A small portion of any funds raised above this amount will be used to contribute to a memorial event, open to all, on the 2nd February 2019 at Goodenough College. More details will be posted as plans develop.

- GC have told us that £5,000 is the minimum for a one-year period of support for one student. If we raise more, the scholarship will be distributed year on year, and we can keep donating to ensure it continues.

- Barry's family is happy with this idea, and plan to join the efforts in establishing the plaque and scholarship, and will be attending the event in February. We will coordinate with them on the terms of the scholarship award.

We hope you will join in paying it forward for Barry, taking up something that was an important priority for him - helping to ensure that young scholars will have the opportunity to pursue their dreams.

Please contribute to this permanent reminder of our great fortune in knowing Barry, and his lasting contribution to our lives.
