Story
In 2018 we, as a community, supported Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council as it sought to prevent precious green wedge land from being developed into 185 houses. In November 2020, that land became available for purchase. This presents us with the opportunity to forever protect this space by taking ownership as a community. If not that particular land, then we will seek other opportunities.
We want to create a stunning open space in an area where publicly accessible options are limited, presenting it as a lasting symbol of the local response to COVID-19. We hope to plant a tree to mark every life lost in the borough, and a plant for each recorded case. Ultimately, this new greenery will help to ensure a peaceful, inspiring setting for all residents and visitors as we work to create something of which we can all be proud. There will be a very special 'Arboretum for Everyone' dedicated to the memory of Mervyn Perkins who sadly passed away in April 2020.
