    Story

    Annual Charity Powerlifting Event

Battle of the Bar is back, and this time it’s going to be bigger, and better. Last year we raised just shy of £1000 for MacMillan Cancer Trust, and this year we’re hoping to raise £1000 in donations for the Major Trauma ward in Aintree Hospital.

"Aintree Major Trauma Centre provides specialist life saving treatment for patients across Cheshire and Merseyside and the Isle of Man. Major trauma is the leading cause of death in people under the age of 45 and as such is a serious public health problem. Traumatic injury is a term which refers to physical injuries of sudden onset and severity which require immediate medical attention. On a daily basis Aintree University Hospital treats patients who have variety of life-changing injuries including traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries, traumatic amputations, traumatic chest injuries and multiple fractures.
Once the patient arrives on the major trauma ward or critical care, they are cared for by a multi-disciplinary team including consultants, doctors, nursing staff, health care assistants and therapists. To treat such complex injuries, an array of equipment and resources are utilised throughout the patients journey.
With your donation we can raise money to improve further the care that the multi-disciplinary team provide. This could include new equipment, learning resources, interactive rehabilitation software for patients with a traumatic brain injury and lots more!

Thank you so much for your support!"

This time next week, the competition will be in full swing. still plenty of time to donate to a great cause! If all you can afford is a £1 donation, that £1 will make such a difference to the care future patients may will receive. Thank you to those who've contributed so far. We set a hefty goal and, because of your donations, we are actually close to reaching this goal. Thank you again!

Well done to all concerned. A great cause and a fantastic effort - especially you Tess O'Flaherty ... it turns out that it's a good thing you took up power lifting rather than the trumpet after all.
