Story

Its that time of the year again where we try to raise money for a nominated charity, and what better one than the charity who organises the event.
The BCN 24 hour challenge, is simple start anywhere at 8.00am on Saturday 26th May and finish at Titford Pumphouse by 2.00pm Sunday 27th, in the 30 hour duration there must be a 6 hour rest period (we take ours at the finish!!!!!), you can basically navigate anywhere on the 100 miles of canal network building up points for total distance, locks and there is treasure hunt style questions along the way.
This year we aim to do the 24 hours straight through and aiming for 70 plus locks!!! (maybe don't tell the crew that bit).

Have a read below to find out more about the BCNS and what they do.

The Birmingham Canal Navigations Society (BCNS) aims to conserve, improve and encourage a wide range of interests in the 100 mile network of the Birmingham and Black Country Waterways known as the BCN.
At their height, the Birmingham Canal Navigations (BCN) extended for approximately 160 miles with numerous private branches, arms & basins to serve the industries of the region. Over the last 100 years this total has been reduced to approximately 100 miles.

The BCNS has its headquarters at the restored Pumphouse on the Titford Canal, in Oldbury. At 511 ft above sea level the Pumphouse is at the highest part of the BCN.

In view of continuous cuts to funding it is possible that maintenance work on lesser used canals will suffer. It is, therefore, more important than ever to “use it or lose it”. It is hoped that the Challenge, together with the BCNS Explorer Cruises, will increase the use of the BCN and that all waterways users will continue to use this unique network, in all seasons.

As BCN Society is currently not registered with Just Giving we are using the crowdfund option, however all donations made will be transferred to BCNS treasurer at end of fundraising.
