Story

I was shocked and very pleased to get a 'good for age' place in this year's London Marathon.

In recent years, I have become increasingly aware of the difficulties adults living with ADHD (Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder) and ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) face. So when I heard about FAST MINDS, a local user-led group who provide support and friendship to adults living with ADHD/ASD and comorbid disorders, I decided that this would be the charity I would support this year.

FAST MINDS is an acronym for common symptoms that are often seen in ADHD & ASD: Forgetful. Achieving below potential. Stuck in a rut. Time challenged. Motivationally challenged. Impulsive. Novelty seeking. Distractible. Scattered.

Early diagnosis and treatment of ADHD/ASD is key to better cognitive, academic, social and psychological functioning in subsequent years, but reality means that ADHD/ASD often goes undiagnosed or is misdiagnosed, which leads to chronic psychological distress , learned helplessness, poor self-care, substance abuse, low self-esteem, employment difficulties and difficult long-term relationships.

Knowing that I'm running the 26.2 miles to raise money for this amazing and deserving charity will keep me going. Check out the link to their website below.

All donations are gratefully received. Thank you in advance for your support.
