Story
Beacon Hill Fort in Harwich Essex was commissioned by Henry the V111 and then reinforced further during WW1. At the outbreak of WW2 it was fitted with experimental 6" guns to defend against German invasion. Since the 50s it has been abandoned. and has now nearly 70 years later has been purchased to be turned into a space for use by the people of Harwich. the site is extensive the 30 + buildings including the network of underground tunnels are in remarkable condition, even though they have been routinely vandalised over the years. but the site holds such wonderful memories for everyone who grew up in Harwich.

The whole town is behind its preservation. But not as a static museum (Though some buildings will celibrate its history) but as a space the everyone can use. we have such wonderful plans but all that costs money. A lot of money. the buildings under the guidance of English Heritage will be restored externally to look how she was in the 1940s but the interiors will be for local groups to use. It is difficult to explain how large, beautiful and unique this site is so please visit and join our Facebook page Beacon Hill fort Harwich and if you are in the area please come visit and explore. But the reason we are asking for your help is to buy a Tractor / Mini digger to help clear the site and maintain her in the future. A team of volunteers have been working incredibly hard but it would be so much easier with a machine. £10.000 is a drop in the ocean for what we have already raised and spent. but it will be a great step forward. lastly we would welcome any long term help from business or individuals with vision in exchange for exposure on the site, on the web and in the media
