BEARDED MAN WALKING

What is BEARDED MAN WALKING? (said no-one, probably ever). Well, I’m glad you asked. BEARDED MAN WALKING can be summed up as a 280 in 28 at 58 fundraising challenge. It involves walking 280km (or 173.984 miles if you prefer) during the 28-days that comprise the month of February, 2022 - the 58 bit, well that's the age of the bloke with facial foliage doing the walking. Oh, and just so I can't amble along, the 280km has to be completed with an average pace of 10-minute per km.

That’s the what…now for the why. Why do I want to subject this already high mileage body of mine to more wear and tear? Three words. THE. HUMMINGBIRD. PROJECT. Put them together and you get an award-winning, non-profit social enterprise based in Portstewart that’s breaking new ground in the provision of essential mental health services.

Brainchild of CEO Leigh Carey, The Hummingbird Project comprises a close-knit team of experts, each with the empathy and understanding that's shaped by their own ‘lived experience’ [LEx] of mental ill-health. Established in 2016, The Hummingbird Project offers mental health services to individuals, organisations and the community. It also innovates, creating real world solutions that work and is a champion for a pro-active approach to mental wellbeing. The Hummingbird Project makes a real difference. With your help, and my spindly legs, BEARDED MAN WALKING can play a part in ensuring this essential enterprise continues to soar. ..
