    Story

The Speedway Riders' Benevolent Fund is a charity whose main purpose is to benefit former Speedway Riders, Current Speedway Riders, and their families, following serious or life changing injuries whilst racing for a British Speedway Club or representing Great Britain at International Level Speedway.

2020 has seen a huge drop in donations due to the cancellation of the British Speedway season because of Covid-19. The reason for this is that most of the SRBF's income is generated by track collections - as a result of no collections being made this year, there is a significant shortfall in funds with less than £17,000 of the SRBF's £100,000 annual expenditure being raised to date.

My friends Jamie Swales, Jade Mudgway and I are co-promoters for Redcar Bears Speedway. We have been involved in British Speedway for a long time and have witnessed first hand how devastating a serious injury caused by racing can be and the lasting effects that has on the rider and their families. The SRBF and the volunteers who run it have always been on hand to offer support when it is needed - the work they do is simply amazing and they need our help!

So, to raise money for the SRBF, Jamie, Jade and myself plan to run a combined distance of 780 km by Christmas day, starting on the 1st November. This is the driving distance from the most northerly speedway track in the UK, Edinburgh, to the most southerly track, Plymouth. We will track each run using Strava and post each of them to our social media accounts as proof. For the record, we hate running and have not done any for a while, so this isn't going to be much fun!

2020 has been a very challenging year for most people and those in need of the SRBF's help will be feeling the effects of Covid-19 more than most. The fund is in much need of a boost and I'd like those of us who can, to back this cause and offer much needed support. Any donation, no matter how big or small, is hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!
