Story

‘Beasts’ is a one-woman tour de force production about the experience of street harassment, the effect of intimidation, and how we are supposed to feel safe when those who are sworn to protect us admit that they can’t.

Inspired by the writer’s real-life experience, the production is part spoken word, part outcry, and part rally for change. We hope that through this production, we can encourage those who have experienced this violence to feel comfortable talking about it, by showing them that they are not alone. We also hope we can raise awareness for those who are fighting to make changes and show those who say ‘it’s just harmless fun’ exactly why they are wrong.

We are bringing this show to the Edinburgh Fringe this August, at the Zoo Theatre between 4th-27th. 20 Productions, 20 Hours, 20 chances to spread awareness of this pressing issue and the ways in which we can challenge those who commit it and support those who suffer from it.

We are aiming to raise £2000 to help us bring this show to the Edinburgh Fringe. We know that this is a moment where every penny can count, and we working to ensure that all the money raised through this campaign has the highest impact possible.

WHAT IS YOUR MONEY GOING TO?

50% - Creative Fees: The quality of this show will come down to the amazing talent, hard work, and creative passion of our amazing team. Working hard to bring this production to audiences and share the ideas and messages of the show, this is a fantastic team that believes in one another and the value of this project. By donating to this page, you will support them in their work and ensure the value of everything they do goes properly appreciated.

25% - Accommodation: One of the most pressing costs, and sadly, one of the least avoidable. Your donation will allow us to support our creative team at the festival by ensuring quality accommodation is sourced in order to provide a space for our team whilst bringing the show to life!

15% - Marketing: An Edinburgh fringe show is only as good as its marketing. The donations from this fundraiser will allow us to break through the noise of the festival, using targeted social media campaigns, dedicated flyering sessions, and professional photography and videography to show this production in its best colours. A small donation may not seem that much to you but could make the difference in having increased audiences hearing about our work!

10% - Registration: The initial fringe fees costs for the fringe can add up, even before you set foot in the rehearsal space. Your donation will allow us to ensure smooth registration with the Edinburgh Fringe Society, which gets us the advertisement, press lists, and public attention that comes with the official festival.

In return for your donation, we promise you:

1. Complete financial transparency. You’ll be able to see where every part of your donation will be going and how we will be using it to achieve our goals for this show.

2. Regular updates. You’ll be the first to witness trailer footage, rehearsal photos, promotional extracts from the text, and updates from the full team. We appreciate everyone who donates to this page, and we want to show that we will remember you.

3. Public shout-outs. By supporting the arts and helping us spread awareness of this important issue, you’ve helped us raise crucial awareness in tackling street harassment. We want to thank you, loudly and prominently, on our social media channels, in text and video form, for your contribution.

4. Returning the favour. If you, or someone you know, has a donation page, online site, or an upcoming project, we will be happy to share this across multiple platforms to try and return the good deed you’ve done for us.

5. Exclusive content. See behind-the-scenes, including bonus footage of the play, deleted extracts from the script, and behind-the-scenes looks at the crew in action! You’ve done so much for this show – You deserve to see more of it!
